The Machine Knows Its Mistress

I took my husband's Honda Civic in yesterday for an oil change after the long drive to Columbus, Ohio, and back.

When I got home, he had set up the dishwasher, but he glumly told me, "There's something wrong with the dishwasher. It won't work. It just sits there and hums. Try it."

I reached out and turned the dishwasher on. It started right up.

He cooks.

I fix things.
