Lost Arts studio

A lot of the fiber arts I enjoy are things like tatting, netmaking, chair caning, and even weaving, where people will come up to me when I demonstrate and solemnly tell me, "That's a lost art."

Happy Thought

by Robert Louis Stevenson

The world is so full of a number of things,
I'm sure we should all be as happy as kings.

When I was a little girl, my mom would read to me from a copy of A Child's Garden of Verses. Many of the illustrations were tiny detailed pictures of plants, flowers, leaves, and seedpods.

I still have a head full of those poems, that come to me at odd moments.

The Cow

The friendly cow all red and white
I love with all my heart:
She gives me cream with all her might,
To eat with apple-tart.

She wanders lowing here and there,
And yet she cannot stray,
All in the pleasant open air,
The pleasant light of day;

And blown by all the winds that pass
And wet with all the showers,
She walks among the meadow grass
And eats the meadow flowers.

Mmmm, apple tart.

Google Books has an 1895 edition with illustrations by Charles Robinson.

I still have my old copy of that book. I love it. "The Highwayman" was a rave fave in my youth.

I've seen that book and may have owned it as a child. I can't find it on the book shelf and now I wonder where it went.

Mmmm...

When at home alone I sit...

"The Little Land" was the only one I managed to memorize and even then I misremembered one word.

My Childcraft book of poetry was full of illustrations similar to that old edition of Stephenson's on Google. The Childcraft had my favorite childhood poem - Dilliki Dolliki Dinah though we always said Dillika Dollica Dinah.
